Job summary

Connex Education is seeking dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistants to support pupils in primary schools across Somerset, including Taunton, Bridgwater, and surrounding areas. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo, and other staff to provide personalised support for a pupil, helping them access learning and build confidence.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children with additional needs is beneficial but not essential.
• Previous experience supporting children, young people, or vulnerable individuals is desirable.
• Patient, empathetic, and adaptable in supporting learning.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
• Genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.
• Understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures.
• Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service or willingness to apply.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one support for a pupil throughout the school day.
• Support the pupil’s academic, social, emotional, and behavioural development.
• Adapt learning activities to suit the pupil’s individual needs.
• Encourage engagement, participation, and independence in the classroom.
• Implement strategies from support plans and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) when applicable.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff, and external professionals.
• Monitor progress and give feedback to teaching staff.
• Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
• Assist the pupil during transitions, breaktimes, and structured activities as needed.
