Job summary

TeacherActive Limited is recruiting a dedicated SEN / SEMH Teacher for a permanent role in Carlisle, starting January 2027 or sooner. You will plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons for pupils across KS3 and KS4, focusing on SEMH needs and positive behaviour strategies.

You will work closely with support staff to provide a nurturing learning environment, uphold safeguarding standards, and help pupils build confidence, resilience and progress.

Qualifications

• QTS or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Experience teaching KS3 and KS4.
• Experience with SEMH, challenging behaviour and learning difficulties.
• Strong classroom management and positive behaviour strategies.
• Ability to adapt teaching to individual learning needs.
• Patient, resilient and nurturing approach.

Job Title: SEN / SEMH Teacher
Location: Carlisle
Start Date: January 2027 or sooner
Salary: £160 - £250 per day (Paid to Scale)
Contract Type: Permanent

TeacherActive is proud to be working with an Alternative Provision setting based in Carlisle, supporting young people across Key Stage 3 / KS3 and Key Stage 4 / KS4. The setting provides a supportive and structured learning environment for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs / SEMH, behavioural difficulties and additional learning needs, with a focus on building confidence, developing positive relationships and helping pupils achieve their full potential.

The school is looking to appoint a dedicated SEN / SEMH Teacher on a permanent basis from January 2027, with the opportunity to start sooner for the right candidate. The successful SEN / SEMH Teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons, managing challenging behaviour effectively and working closely with support staff to provide a consistent and nurturing learning environment for pupils with a range of additional needs.

The successful SEN / SEMH Teacher will have:

• Qualified Teacher Status / QTS (ECTs are also welcome to apply)

• Experience teaching pupils across Key Stage 3 / KS3 and Key Stage 4 / KS4

• Experience supporting young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour and learning difficulties

• Strong classroom management skills and the ability to implement positive behaviour strategies

• The ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs

• A patient, resilient and nurturing approach with a genuine passion for supporting young people
