DIESEL TECHNICIAN / Refrigeration a Plus
Salary: $20.00 - $45.00/hr [Depending on location and experience]
Job Summary
This position is responsible for routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repair on trucks/vehicles and related equipment. Candidates should have a solid knowledge of basic mechanic’s tools, service, and diagnostic equipment, along with strong attention to detail, excellent communication, and customer service skills. Ability to work independently or as part of a team is essential.
Mechanic Responsibilities
- Conduct diagnostics and repairs on starting & charging systems, cooling, electrical systems, and fault codes.
- Inspect, analyze, and diagnose trucks/vehicles and related equipment for mechanical issues and faulty or replacement parts.
- Perform leak detection, compressor replacements, soldering refrigerant lines, evaporator/condenser replacements, and engine seal replacements following manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
- Perform routine maintenance and federal inspections on trailers, trucks, and related equipment.
- Document repair actions, follow checklists, and adhere to protocols.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and clean workspace, including tools and equipment.
- Follow all health and safety guidelines and practices.
- Work independently and support team members as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge-Based Requirements
- Knowledge of diesel vehicle mechanical systems (transmission, exhaust, electrical).
- Understanding of diagnostic equipment and proficiency with hand and power tools, measurement tools (e.g., calipers).
- ASE certifications are highly desired but not mandatory.
- 1-2 years of Transport Refrigeration Technical or equivalent experience.
- Able to pass pre-employment knowledge/skill tests.
- Proven mechanical skills and basic math proficiency.
- Ability to read and write in English for documentation purposes.
- Own tools, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, and hearing protection required.
- Able to pass a 10-year background check and drug test/medical physical.
Physical Demands/Abilities
- Heavy lifting up to 100 lbs occasionally; 50 lbs frequently; 20 lbs constantly.
- Prolonged walking and standing.
- Climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles.
- Bending, stooping, crouching, and balancing.
- Kneeling, crawling, and manual dexterity for handling tools and parts.
- Repetitive motions of wrists, hands, and fingers.
- Communicating verbally and hearing clearly.
- Good visual acuity for inspecting parts and using measurement tools.
Work Environment
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in a shop environment, subject to weather, temperature changes, dirt, dust, soot, mold, noise, and ladder use for high work. Hazards include moving vehicles, mechanical parts, electrical currents, chemicals, fumes, poor ventilation, and confined spaces.
