Title: Diesel Mechanic
Compensation: Commensurate with experience
Employment type: Full-Time – 40+ hours/week
Work schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm.
Overtime: When required to meet business demands.
Location: Brownsville, PA
Essential Job Functions:
- Perform routine vehicle maintenance (fuel trucks, adjust brakes, fix lights and other small mechanical problems)
- Perform basic preventative maintenance on all diesel vehicles, heavy equipment such as material handlers, loaders, excavators, forklifts, etc.
- Perform basic preventative maintenance on all semi-trucks and trailers
- Troubleshoot and repair all types of diesel and gas engines
- Diagnose and repair semi-trucks and trailers
- Repair, replace, recondition, disassemble, weld, and examine parts and engines
- Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper working condition
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries and lubricating equipment and machinery
- Maintain a basic knowledge of a vehicle's mechanical and electrical systems to perform basic preventive maintenance and some repair functions.
- Use diagnostic tools to test vehicle components
- Perform quality inspections
- Specialize in vehicle transmission systems
- Work in accordance with all federal and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT).
- Perform assignments in a timely manner
- Perform other facility maintenance duties
- Learn and work in accordance with procedures and instructions, policies, and safety, environmental and security rules and guidelines
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.
Qualifications:
- Certification from an accredited technical school; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred experience or course work in diesel mechanic, maintenance principles and machine repair practices.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Knowledgeable in all aspects of basic hand tools and proper use.
- Knowledgeable on the proper inspection, removal, installation and alignment and lubrication of bearings, gears, belts and chains.
- Good mechanical aptitude and math skills.
- Strong analytical skills and theoretical background in mechanical systems
- Work autonomously or act as an effective team member, exhibiting good inter-personal skills
- Excellent written, organization and verbal communication skills
- Provide quality communications to internal customers (verbal, written and telephone)
- Ability to work independently and prioritize
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Problem solving skills
- Knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office.
