Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania seeks a Semi Skilled Laborer to help maintain the southeastern Veterans' Center in Spring City, PA. You will perform outdoor grounds work, operate equipment, and handle minor repairs to keep facilities welcoming for veterans and visitors.

Work is full-time (37.5 hours per week), with a 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM schedule and some evenings/weekends as needed. A PA Class C license is required, and a medical exam may be required before job offers.

Job description

As a Semi Skilled Laborer with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), you will make a strong and visible impact by helping the southeastern Veterans' Center stay clean, well-kept, and welcoming. This role gives you the chance to work with a wide range of tools, equipment, and outdoor tasks that keep the grounds and facilities in great condition. This position supports the upkeep of the buildings and grounds at the southeastern Veterans' Center through a variety of maintenance and landscaping tasks. As a Semi Skilled Laborer, you will perform the following duties:

• Grounds Maintenance: Carry out tasks such as mowing, pruning, planting, and removing debris across outdoor areas
• Equipment Operation: Operate riding mowers, snowplows, trimmers, and other machinery to support year-round maintenance
• Minor Repairs: Perform small masonry, carpentry, and plumbing repairs throughout the facility
• Safety Upkeep: Clear walkways and parking areas of snow, ice, leaves, and other hazards
• Record Keeping: Review work requests and maintain basic records as directed by the supervisor
• Worksite Cleanup: Clean work areas and tools after completing maintenance tasks

Work Schedule and Additional Information

• Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
• Work hours are 1st shift (7:00 AM to 3:00 PM), Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. You will work evenings and weekends as needed.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,831.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements

• One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction;
• or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Condition of Employment

• You must possess a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.

Additional Requirements

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required)

• Willingness to work at the southeastern Veterans' Center in Spring City, Pennsylvania
• Experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction
• Experience in maintenance work
• Experience in electrical work
• Experience using a the following hand tools: hammer, screwdriver, pliers, side-cutter, adjustable wrench, ratchets, box wrench, open wrench, or paint equipment (brush, roller, etc.)
• Experience using the following power tools: drill, circular saw, saber saw, lawn mower, weed wacker, chain saw, or hedge trimmer
• Experience operating any of the following: hand mower, riding mower, weed wacker, hand scythe, shovel, rake, or pick
• Experience in any of the following: moving and arranging furniture in offices and meeting rooms; painting, spackling, and drywall repair; raking, shoveling, and other outside labor duties; sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing floors; lifting, carrying, and/or moving heavy items with or without assistance; and trash pickup
• Willingness to work outside, potentially in adverse weather conditions

• A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
• This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
  • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
