Job summary

Turner Construction Company in Cleveland seeks a Self-Perform Operations Superintendent to lead SPO staff, supervise trades, and coordinate subcontractors in alignment with contract scope, safety standards, and project schedule.

You will develop and implement SPO work schedules, manage staffing, monitor progress, review quantities, and support bidding and constructability reviews; travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of related experience performing as Superintendent managing self-perform work or relevant experience (e.g., Trades Foreperson, Surveyor, Project Engineer)
• In-depth technical knowledge of self-perform work and related tools and equipment
• Knowledge of building construction, means and methods, scheduling and cost control procedures, general contract understanding, general conditions, subcontract documents, drawings and specifications, and Trade practices
• Able to anticipate and communicate issues/risks and information to non-technical audiences
• Knowledge of continuous improvement concepts, principles, and methodologies
• Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawing specifications, scopes of work, and project schedule
• In-depth knowledge of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) practices
• Conceptual ability to work with minimum information and quickly develop understanding of requirements
• Proficient skills in project management, able to prioritize competing demands and meet deadlines
• Leadership management skills with ability to forge relationships with stakeholders and indirect reports
• Professional verbal and written communication skills, able to present information clearly
• Proficient computer skills and Microsoft Office suite of applications
• Travel may be required

Responsibilities

• Plan, forecast, lead, direct, and coordinate work of Self-Perform Operations staff, subcontractors, and suppliers on SPO projects
• Oversee and confirm implementation of planned work for safety, schedule, quality, and production tracking
• Supervise Trade labor in areas of responsibility
• Develop and manage jobsite safety programs with EH&S
• Develop JHAs with Forepersons for pre-task planning
• Foster a safe, caring workplace per Turner’s Active Caring philosophy
• Sequence work to meet project schedule and integrate SPO activities into the main schedule
• Develop and implement SPO work schedules and monitor progress
• Understand, oversee, and validate construction layout and surveying plans
• Establish production requirements and measure results weekly
• Manage hiring/terminations related to Trade labor and communicate decisions
• Monitor deliveries and procurement for SPO tasks
• Develop relationships with labor sources for staffing needs
• Resolve field issues with project leaders and stakeholders
• Mentor SPO Trade forepersons and provide feedback
• Identify high potential trades staff for progression
• Validate monthly estimates, payrolls, material invoices, and subcontractor payments
• Assist with bidding work and constructability reviews
