Job summary

Food Lion in Garner, NC is hiring a Front End Associate to provide fast, friendly service at the self-checkout and cashier areas and assist customers with questions. You will greet customers, operate self-checkout, and ensure a neat, efficient checkout experience.

Responsibilities include monitoring self-checkouts, helping customers with purchases, maintaining cleanliness, handling payments, and following store standards. Physical tasks include standing during shifts and lifting items as needed.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Effective communication and customer service skills.
• Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job.
• Must meet minimum age requirements to perform specific job functions.

Responsibilities

• Smile and provide prompt, accurate and friendly service while engaging customers to create a positive shopping experience
• Greet each customer and uses their name whenever possible
• Assist customers on how to use Self-checkouts properly including use of the hand scanner for a Fast and Easy checkout experience
• Respond timely to customer inquiries and self-checkout system notifications
• Monitor multiple self-checkouts for proper customer usage including the scanning of all items and the accurate scanning of each item
• Remind customers of items located on the bottom of the cart or items under baby seats prior to them completing the transaction
• When needed, assist in scanning the customer's order and provide instructions on payment
• Complete self-checkout voids, age restricted item verifications and any other SCO assist function in accordance with Front End Standard Practice
• Acknowledge customers and maintain courteous behavior
• Wear the Food Lion uniform with name badge and presentation
• Collect and return shopping carts from the self-checkout area
• Ensure the self-checkout area has a neat and clean presentation
• Report any self-checkout issues to the Customer Service Manager or MOD
• Adhere to all company guidelines, policies and standard practices
• Ability to perform troubleshooting steps on self-checkout as needed
• Observe and correct all unsafe conditions that could cause associate or customer accidents
• Notify QA of any cleaning issues or maintenance required on front end
• Successfully complete computer-based training (CBT) and training aid courses
• Ensure self-checkouts are supplied with proper bags
• Perform all other duties as assigned
