Selections Coordinator / Interior Designer

Location: Mount Vernon, OH

Job Type: Full-Time, W-2

Work Arrangement: In-office with local travel for client meetings, showroom visits, and project sites. Some design work, including mood boards, color coordination, and space planning, may be completed remotely.

We are seeking one organized, creative, client-focused professional for a combined Selections Coordinator / Interior Designer role. This position brings together client design guidance, material selections, vendor coordination, documentation, and project follow-through.

The ideal candidate enjoys helping homeowners make confident design decisions, has a strong eye for color and materials, communicates clearly, and can keep multiple selections and deadlines organized.

What You'll Do

Design & Creative Coordination

• Meet with homeowners to understand their style, lifestyle, priorities, and vision.
• Develop cohesive design concepts by coordinating colors, materials, textures, and finishes.
• Create mood boards, color palettes, and material presentations.
• Guide clients through interior and exterior finish selections and explain how choices work together.
• Provide basic guidance on kitchen and bathroom layouts, door placements, built-ins, and spatial flow. Formal drafting or CAD production is not required.
• Help clients make design decisions that balance aesthetics, function, and budget.

Selections Coordination

• Guide homeowners through material and finish selections, including flooring, cabinetry, countertops, tile, plumbing fixtures, lighting, hardware, paint, windows, doors, and exterior finishes.
• Help clients achieve their desired design within established project allowances and budgets.
• Explain and document upgrades, substitutions, credits, and related costs.
• Coordinate showroom and vendor appointments and organize samples.
• Maintain selection timelines, finish schedules, design folders, and project documentation.
• Provide advance notice, generally around 60 days, before materials are needed in the field.
• Track deadlines and follow up proactively to help prevent project delays.
• Enter selections, allowances, pricing, approvals, and documentation into Buildertrend.
• Maintain selection sheets, finish schedules, sign-offs, and change-order documentation.
• Confirm that clients understand and approve selections before they are finalized.
• Coordinate change orders and communicate pricing or material changes to project managers, purchasing, and bookkeeping.
• Confirm product availability, lead times, substitutions, and delivery requirements.
• Provide alternatives when requested materials are unavailable or do not meet project requirements.
• Communicate finalized selections to project management, purchasing, scheduling, and installation teams.
• Participate in electrical walkthroughs and client meetings as needed.
• Build and maintain positive vendor and showroom relationships.
• Participate in weekly leadership, development, and operations meetings.

General Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and organized digital project records.
• Meet expectations for communication, documentation, scheduling, accuracy, advance notice, and client satisfaction.
• Support team members and adapt as project needs evolve.

Qualifications

Experience

• 3+ years of relevant experience in residential interior design or decorating, selections coordination, kitchen and bath design, showroom sales, custom homebuilding, remodeling, home-improvement sales, or a related field.
• Experience guiding homeowners or clients through design decisions and product selections.
• Strong understanding of color, proportion, materials, texture, and aesthetic coordination.
• Ability to create mood boards, color palettes, and design presentations.
• Knowledge of cabinetry, countertops, flooring, tile, plumbing fixtures, lighting, hardware, paint, and residential finishes.

Construction & Project Knowledge

• Familiarity with residential construction materials, terminology, and project flow.
• Comfortable working with allowances, pricing, lead times, and budgets.
• Ability to manage multiple clients, selections, and deadlines.
• Buildertrend, CoConstruct, or Procore experience is preferred.

Design Tools

Experience with Canva, Houzz, or similar design tools is a plus. Familiarity with Chief Architect, SketchUp, 2020 Design, or similar space-planning software is also helpful but not required. We prioritize design judgment, client communication, and material knowledge over technical drafting skills.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Pay: $20.00 to $25.00 per hour, based on experience, design capabilities, and scope of responsibility. OTE: $72,000/year

Sales Performance Incentive Program (SPIP): Eligible team members in the Selections Coordinator role may earn an additional performance incentive equal to 0.5% of the qualifying Job Running Total for each qualifying project. The Job Running Total includes the Development Agreement, Construction Agreement, change orders, and selections.

At QCS's current annual revenue of approximately $4 million, this incentive may represent up to approximately $20,000 in additional annual income. SPIP payments are made on a rolling basis as qualifying client payments are received. The incentive is subject to applicable performance standards and is not guaranteed.

Additional Client Relations Opportunity

For a candidate interested in sales and client relationship responsibilities, there may be an opportunity to take on additional Client Relations Manager / Sales Development Representative responsibilities.

These responsibilities may include qualifying initial leads, helping prospective clients understand the QCS process, and maintaining client relationships throughout the sales and construction process.

This additional responsibility carries a separate SPIP of 0.5% of the qualifying Job Running Total for each project managed through the client relations function.

Candidates who take on both the core selections/design role and these additional client relations responsibilities may have the opportunity to earn up to approximately $40,000 in additional annual incentive compensation at current revenue levels. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed and is subject to applicable performance standards.
