Job summary

The University of Rochester is seeking a Driver/Delivery Worker to support campus operations at 271 East River Rd, Rochester, NY. This full-time role delivers supplies and equipment using panel and stake trucks, and performs routine vehicle maintenance.

Position is 40 hours weekly with pay under UR SEIU 027. Candidates must hold a NYS driver’s license and be able to lift up to 70 pounds, with good reading/writing English skills.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and write English and to follow maps, diagrams, oral and written instructions.
• Must possess a valid New York State license with appropriate class based on gross vehicle weight ratings.
• Ability to lift up to 70 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Drives panel and/or stake trucks safely to deliver and pick up supplies, materials, equipment, transportation tickets, etc.
• Responsible for general maintenance of vehicle and necessary daily or other periodic reporting of trips as required.
• Knows locations of buildings, departments and loading entrances in order to make specific pick-up and deliveries.
• Loads and unloads materials, furniture, supplies, equipment, etc. with assistance as needed.
• Keeps daily record of all trips and time involved; knowledge of handling fragile cargo; may keep record of portable equipment by location.
• Advises supervisor of need for preventive maintenance, inspection or repair of vehicles; may make minor repairs.
• Refuels vehicle, checks fluids and keeps vehicle clean and neat at all times.
• May assist in receiving room when needed.
• Sorts and delivers mail as required.

Typical Duties

4. Keeps daily record of all trips and time involved. Knowledgeable of and implements special handling procedures of fragile cargo. May keep record of all portable equipment by location.
5. Advises supervisor of need for preventive maintenance, inspection or repair of vehicles.
6. May make minor repairs.
7. Refuels vehicle, checks fluids and keeps vehicle clean and neat at all times.
