Job summary

Placements24 in Welkom is seeking a Geophysicist with expertise in seismic data interpretation to join its exploration team on a hybrid basis.

You will process, analyze, and interpret 3D seismic data, integrate it with well logs and core data, and perform AVO analyses to support subsurface models.

Collaborating with geologists and reservoir engineers, you will help devise exploration strategies and de-risk prospects within the Oil & Gas sector.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
• Proven experience (5+ years) in seismic data interpretation for oil and gas exploration.
• Proficiency with industry-standard seismic interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom Suite, GeoGraphix).
• Strong understanding of seismic acquisition, processing, and modeling principles.
• Experience with seismic attribute analysis and inversion techniques is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Process, analyze, and interpret 3D seismic data to identify geological structures and stratigraphic traps.
• Integrate seismic data with well logs, core data, and other geological information for comprehensive subsurface analysis.
• Perform amplitude variation with offset (AVO) analysis and other quantitative seismic interpretation techniques.
• Contribute to the development of exploration strategies and prospect evaluations.
• Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarizing geophysical findings and recommendations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate geological models and exploration targets.
