Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced News Producer to pitch, research, and produce compelling national news segments. You will craft scripts, organize packages, and support live newscasts with strong storytelling. ENPS proficiency and top-market experience are highly valued.

You will mentor staff, collaborate closely with executive producers, and adapt quickly within a fast-paced newsroom environment in Washington, DC.

Qualifications

• Experience producing for a national news program or top 10 market experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field or equivalent experience.
• Strong news judgment and ability to make quick, sound decisions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate and mentor staff in a fast-paced newsroom.

Responsibilities

• Pitch stories and segment ideas regularly.
• Research topics using the Internet, video archives, and other sources.
• Select the strongest elements to tell stories.
• Write, organize, and produce scripts and elements for show segments.
• Assist in preparing and executing live television newscasts.
• Keep Executive/Senior Producer apprised of story developments.
• Assist in the control room as needed.
• Collaborate with producers to ensure accurate broadcasts.

• Pitch stories and segment ideas regularly
• Research topics using the Internet, video archives, and other information sources
• Select the strongest possible elements to tell stories
• Write, organize, and produce scripts and elements for show and interview segments or packages
• Assist in preparing and executing live television newscasts
• Keep the Executive Producer and Senior Producer apprised of story developments
• Assist in the control room if needed
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Producer, Senior Producer, or network leadership
• Collaborate with the Executive Producer, Senior Producers, and Line Producer to ensure accurate and compelling broadcasts

Requirements

• Experience producing for a national news program or producing newscasts in a top 10 market
• Experience covering politics and government
• Strong news judgment
• Quick decision maker and creative thinker
• Effective coach and mentor to staff of all experience levels
• Collaborative team player who advocates for their show and elevates network reporting
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to adapt to change, meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Proficiency with ENPS
• Flexibility to work different shifts
