Job summary

KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh seeks a seasoned Newsroom Producer to craft daily newscasts with precise story selection, pacing, and tone. You will uphold CBS News standards of accuracy, balance, and transparency, and respond to breaking news and major events across platforms.

The role requires strong writing, editing, and leadership, with flexibility for early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays. You will collaborate with reporters, editors, and control room staff to deliver high-impact local news.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum 2–5 years of newsroom production experience (level dependent)
• Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills
• Proven ability to work under aggressive deadlines
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities
• Willingness to work flexible shifts, including early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, and breaking news
• Producing experience in a large-market or CBS O&O newsroom preferred
• Video editing experience or familiarity with non-linear editing systems preferred
• Experience contributing to streaming or digital newscasts preferred
• Strong understanding of local journalism and public-service reporting preferred

Responsibilities

• Write and edit copy for anchors, teases, and live situations
• Edit scripts for accuracy, flow, and conversational delivery
• Collaborate with reporters, photographers, editors, assignment desk, and managing editors
• Build and execute rundowns using newsroom systems
• Communicate with directors, anchors, and control room staff during live broadcasts
• Manage live shots, timing changes, and last-minute adjustments
• Support streaming, mobile, and digital newscasts
• Adapt news content for TV, OTT, online, and other digital platforms
• Participate in editorial meetings and enterprise planning
• Contribute Pittsburgh-focused story ideas
• Support extended coverage during breaking news and special events
