Job description

Security Training and Fleet Logistics Manager

The Security Training and Fleet Logistics Manager serves as University Security’s primary authority for employee training, professional development, and fleet readiness. This position oversees the design, delivery, and evaluation of training programs for all uniformed personnel while managing University Security’s operational vehicle fleet to ensure compliance, accountability, and mission readiness. The position reports to the Assistant Director of University Security within the University of Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Pay Range

Pay Range: $31,000 – $32,000 per hour

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain training programs accounting for State of Minnesota Protective Agent standards and DPS operational goals.
  • Design, implement, and update training curricula that promote proficiency, safety, and consistency across all operational divisions.
  • Maintain accurate and auditable training records, certifications, and rosters for accountability and compliance.
  • Lead and conduct employee training operations, scheduling, coordination, and logistics for 40+ full-time and 60+ part-time employees.
  • Conduct or coordinate training sessions such as orientation, field training, instructor development, and specialized certification programs.
  • Manage training equipment, supplies, and related budget allocations.
  • Administer vehicle program including scheduling, maintenance, inspections, and lifecycle management.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle records and coordinate with DPS administration, Facilities Management, and Fleet Services for procurement and compliance.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of training, fleet operations, and regulatory compliance.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management systems.
  • Ability to work independently, manage conflict, and support a diverse workforce.
Required Qualifications
  • BA/BS plus at least two years of related experience, or a combination of education and experience equaling six years in law enforcement, security, fleet management, or training.
  • Ability to obtain instructor certifications for assigned curricula.
  • Must maintain eligibility for access to law enforcement–sensitive information (CJIS Data Access Terminals).
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Availability to work evenings or weekends for training or fleet emergencies.
  • Regular attendance is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing training or fleet operations in a public safety or higher education environment.
  • Background in employee development, program management, or operational logistics.
  • Familiarity with University of Minnesota policies, ISO budgeting, and fleet compliance systems.
