Job summary

The University of Minnesota is seeking a Security Training and Fleet Logistics Manager for University Security within DPS. You will design, deliver, and evaluate training programs for all uniformed personnel and oversee the vehicle fleet to ensure compliance, accountability, and mission readiness.

The role reports to the Assistant Director of University Security. Responsibilities include developing curricula, maintaining training records, scheduling training, and coordinating fleet procurement

Job description

Description of Position

The Security Training and Fleet Logistics Manager serves asUniversity Security’s primary authority for employee training,professional development, and fleet readiness. This positionoversees the design, delivery, and evaluation of training programsfor all uniformed personnel while managing University Security’soperational vehicle fleet to ensure compliance, accountability, andmission readiness. The position reports to the Assistant Directorof University Security within the University of MinnesotaDepartment of Public Safety (DPS).

Responsibilities / Essential Functions

33% Develop and Maintain Training Programs

  • Collaborate with USEC leadership to identify knowledge, skill,and compliance requirements for uniformed personnel in accordancewith State of Minnesota Protective Agent standards and DPSoperational goals.
  • Design, implement, and update training curricula that promoteproficiency, safety, and consistency across all operationaldivisions.
  • Maintain accurate and auditable training records,certifications, and rosters to ensure accountability and compliancewith University and state mandates.

33% Lead and Conduct Employee Training

  • Oversee the training operations calendar including scheduling,coordination of rosters, and logistics for 40+ full-time and 60+part-time employees.
  • Conduct or coordinate training sessions such as unitorientation, field training, instructor development, andspecialized certification programs.
  • Manage training equipment, supplies, and related budgetallocations to ensure effective use of University resources.

33% Fleet Management Operations

  • Administer University Security’s vehicle program includingscheduling, maintenance, inspections, and lifecycle management toensure safety and operational readiness.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle records including mileage, fuelusage, repairs, and preventive maintenance documentation.
  • Coordinate with DPS administration, Facilities Management, andFleet Services for procurement, replacement planning, andcompliance with University fleet policies and insurancerequirements.

This job may be designated as essential.

Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability tobalance multiple operational priorities.
  • Knowledge of training and development principles, fleetoperations, and regulatory compliance.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and datamanagement systems.
  • Ability to work independently, manage conflict constructively,and support a diverse workforce.
Required Qualifications
  • BA/BS plus at least two years of related experience, or acombination of education and experience equal to six years in lawenforcement, security, fleet management, or training.
  • Ability to obtain instructor certifications for assignedcurricula.
  • Must maintain eligibility for access to lawenforcement‑sensitive information, including CJIS Data AccessTerminals.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Availability to work evenings or weekends for training or fleetemergencies as required.

Essential Qualification: Regular attendance is an essentialqualification for this position.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing training or fleet operations in a publicsafety or higher education environment.
  • Background in employee development, program management, oroperational logistics.
  • Familiarity with University of Minnesota policies, ISObudgeting, and fleet compliance systems.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $27.00 to $35.00 a hour; depending oneducation/qualifications/experience
