Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year as a Monitor I or two years related experience in a similar field.
• Must hold a current and active driver's license.
• Familiar with community correctional operations, corrections laws, rules and regulations.
• Ability to write legible reports in English in own handwriting, using correct grammar.
• Ability to plan motivate, control, schedule, train and react quickly to emergencies.
• Ability to work any assigned shift.
• Ability to work with computers and the applicable software typically used by the facility.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates administrative and operational security activities on a specific shift.
• Effectively leads staff during assigned shift to maintain adequate security coverage.
• Read, understand and comply with post orders for the assigned post.
• Ensure resident formal counts are conducted.
• Lead Monitor staff and residents on shift; train new employees and resolve issues.
• Report any suspected unauthorized activity or absence to the Security Manager or Facility Director.
• Maintain daily logs and facility checks.
• Provide staffing and cover during short-staffing periods.
• Participate in evaluating security staff and training requirements.
• Monitor safety practices and prepare incident reports as required by policy.
• Communicate with staff, inmates, visitors and the public with tact and fairness.
• Prepare staff logs, disciplinary reports and other administrative reports.
