Security Review Support Engineer, Shipyard

Are you passionate about smart devices and new technologies? Do you enjoy troubleshooting and solving technical problems? Amazon Shipyard operates a device lab in Seattle supporting our Global Real Estate and Information Security functions. The Security Review Support Engineer will lead technical and security reviews for building devices, participate in company-wide user groups, and be responsible for installing devices, troubleshooting, communicating with vendors, and assessing risks. You will ensure the quality and security of device systems and document security findings and controls.

Key job responsibilities
  1. Design, set up, and maintain test fixtures to verify software on real hardware.
  2. Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues.
  3. Contribute to engineering efforts from design to implementation, focusing on developer and engineering productivity and rapid iteration.
  4. Promote best practices in secure system design.
  5. Conduct security reviews for hardware including servers and devices.
  6. Perform penetration testing and vulnerability research.
  7. Engage in threat modeling activities.
A day in the life

Collaborate with Global Real Estate Business and Amazon Security to ensure secure procurement and implementation of device systems. Daily tasks may include:

  • Meeting with stakeholders to understand requirements.
  • Working with vendors on security protections.
  • Setting up test device systems for analysis.
  • Communicating risks with security partners.
  • Identifying emerging threat vectors in Operational Technology.
About the team

The Global Real Estate and Facilities (GREF) Tech team develops services and tools to support Amazon's global facilities. We aim to create technology that simplifies real estate management and supports various domains, including space planning, construction, safety, sustainability, and building management systems with IoT expertise. This role is ideal for those skilled in building and scaling distributed systems supporting Amazon's growth.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • 4+ years of software development or technical support experience.
  • Experience scripting in modern programming languages.
  • Troubleshooting and debugging technical systems.
  • Experience with agile/scrum workflows.
  • Documenting technical findings.
  • Conducting or preparing for security reviews.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of distributed or enterprise applications.
  • Experience with UNIX/Linux operating systems.
  • Analyzing RESTful web API calls.
  • Experience with OT, ICS, IoT, IIoT, BMS, SCADA, or PLCs.
