Job description

Responsibilities
  • Conduct proactive, high-visibility preventive patrols of Lipscomb University main campus and off-site facilities, including all buildings and grounds associated with Lipscomb Academy.
  • Respond to dispatched calls for service/assistance via Lipscomb University Security dispatch center, including medical calls, building locks/unlocks, vehicle assistance, maintenance support, traffic control, safety concerns, campus vehicle crashes, suspicious activity, etc.
  • Provide safety escorts for students, faculty, staff, or visitors upon request, from buildings to vehicles or vice versa.
  • Perform scheduled locks/unlocks of campus buildings and rooms.
  • Observe, investigate, report, and follow up on unusual or suspicious circumstances and potential hazards affecting campus safety and operations.
  • Enforce parking regulations through ticketing, immobilization, or towing as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with Parking Coordinator to manage parking lot closures for events or other needs.
  • Participate in community relations activities as directed by supervisor or Director of Operations.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with faculty, staff, students, and families, promoting a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop, enhance, and implement emergency plans for various scenarios.
  • Exercise good judgment and critical thinking in response to threats, and conduct regular self-audits of procedures and facilities.
  • Assist Academy Security Officers with security operations, traffic control, special events, and staffing needs.
  • Contribute to the development of patrol procedures, protocols, and training.
  • Work independently and collaboratively, utilizing report-writing tools to document incidents.
  • Detain or arrest subjects within legal guidelines.
  • Assist first responders (Police, Fire, EMS) as dispatched.
  • Maintain professionalism and exemplify a Christ-like attitude in all interactions.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by supervisors or leadership.
Additional Expectations
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in department training, including firearms, de-escalation, active shooter response, vehicle operations, and safety.
  • Maintain current certifications and licenses, and develop relationships with law enforcement agencies.
  • Ensure all issued equipment is operational and well-maintained.
  • Engage actively in accreditation processes and other departmental initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively in verbal and written formats.
Minimum Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience in security, law enforcement, military, corrections, or related fields.
  • Active Tennessee Armed Guard License (preferred but not required).
  • Knowledge of communication software and patrol/disptach procedures (preferred).
  • Valid Tennessee driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening.
