Job summary

The Griffin Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago is seeking a Security Manager to oversee safety and security operations, including management of a contract security provider and protection of staff, visitors, assets and facilities.

Responsibilities include developing security plans, risk assessments, incident reporting, emergency management, training, compliance, and collaboration with other departments to align security with museum goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, security management, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in security management or a related role.
• Proven experience managing contract security providers.
• Strong knowledge of security systems, technologies, and best practices.
• Excellent leadership, verbal, written, and electronic communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle stressful situations and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Certifications such as CPP or PSP are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist to develop and implement comprehensive security plans, policies, and procedures.
• Conduct regular risk assessments and recommend improvements to mitigate risks.
• Monitor security systems, including CCTV, access control, and alarms.
• Prepare and file safety, incident, and department reports.
• Participate in setting and achieving security department goals.
• Oversee contract security provider performance and staffing levels.
• Respond to and manage security incidents and coordinate with law enforcement as necessary.
• Develop security training programs and promote security awareness.
