Overview

Responsible for the safety and well-being of patients, visitors, staff, facilities, and hospital property

Responsibilities

  1. Patrol all areas of their assigned facility, looking for illegal/inappropriate activity and security/safety concerns. Proactively provide information, assistance, and guidance to patients, visitors, and staff.
  2. Conduct internal and external rounds/patrols to ensure the safety and security of the facility, property, and occupants.
  3. Respond to and investigate security incidents. Ensure all incidents and activities are appropriately documented and recorded.
  4. Assist nursing units, clinical care areas, and other departments with uncooperative, combative, or violent patients and visitors. Effectively de-escalate situations and use the appropriate AVADE techniques.
  5. Provide patient watch activities to prevent elopement or injury to self/others.
  6. At the direction of the medical staff, apply restraints. Contact local law enforcement as the situation warrants.
  7. Handle custody disputes and/or domestic disturbances occurring on campus.
  8. Conduct patient and visitor searches when required and perform room and belongings searches as needed.
  9. Respond to emergencies and code calls. Perform CPR, including the use of AEDs. For medical incidents outside the building, contact the local fire department for ambulance response.
  10. Monitor parking lots for compliance with facility regulations. Ticket unauthorized parked cars. Observe and follow up on safety hazards in parking areas. Provide vehicle assistance services.
  11. Enforce company policies as directed by a supervisor.
  12. Assist with parking space and utilization. Rearrange parking barricades to meet organizational needs and special events. Support parking officers with control and assistance.
  13. Assist DHART with helicopter arrivals and departures. Handle deceased patients and accept incoming deceased patients.
  14. Complete all required forms, reports, and documents.
  15. Perform assigned secondary duties.
  16. Respond to duress alarms, calls for service, and other emergency situations.
  17. Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma required.
  2. Two years of related experience preferred.
  3. Direct security experience highly preferred.

Required Licensure/Certifications

  1. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required in accordance with D-H's Driver Disqualifications Guidelines.
  2. Maintain Taser, Handcuff, and Pepper Gel certification.
  3. Complete all required training and pass minimal physical requirements within 90 days from the date of hire and as required thereafter.
  4. Obtain IAHSS Basic Security Officer Certification within 6 months of hire.
