Job Summary

Provides a safe and secure environment for hospital patients, visitors, and staff by enforcing security regulations, monitoring for safety hazards, investigating complaints or potential criminal conduct, assisting in restraining patients when necessary, and providing protective services. Exhibits excellent customer service skills. Responsible for arresting criminal suspects under the authority of State Special Police license, if applicable.

Essential Functions
  1. Patrols assigned areas, focusing on zones with previous security issues.
  2. Identifies unsafe conditions and unsecured areas to prevent theft, injuries, or damages.
  3. Maintains strict confidentiality at all times.
  4. Investigates thefts, shortages, and complaints involving potential misconduct; questions involved individuals; notifies law enforcement; detains suspicious persons; makes arrests when authorized; participates in court proceedings.
  5. Prepares detailed reports and logs incidents; keeps supervisor informed.
  6. Manages valuables and evidence, ensuring safekeeping and proper documentation.
  7. Operates security systems as a Dispatcher; responds to incidents via radio and phone; documents actions taken.
  8. Assists with workplace and domestic violence victims; responds to medical emergencies; helps restrain patients if authorized; protects dignitaries; manages pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
  9. Participates voluntarily in departmental committees, task forces, and teams.
Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Criminal Justice
  • Experience in lieu of degree not accepted

Licenses and Credentials

  • Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License (preferred)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (preferred)
  • International Security Certifications (CHSO, CHSS) (preferred)
  • Personal Drivers License (NH) (preferred)

Experience

  • 3-5 years in hospital, security, police, emergency medical, or customer service roles (preferred)

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to de-escalate tense situations and manage aggression
  • Effective independent and team work skills; multitasking
  • Strong problem-solving, judgment, and analytical skills
