Job description

Job Summary Responsible for maintaining safety and security for an assigned area. Maintains safety and security of patients, visitors, and employees; conducts routine patrols of assigned areas to keep property and persons free from risk; meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned area. Responds to emergencies, fire alarms, hazardous material incidents. Deals with conflict, confrontation, and stressful situations on a routine basis. Performs both foot patrol and vehicle patrol of facilities and grounds. Must be physically able to provide the essential services of the position.

Job Duties

1. Conducts routine patrols on foot or by car of assigned areas; enforces hospital rules of conduct; is aware of unauthorized persons, unusual physical factors, and mechanical malfunctions; reports or resolves problems as appropriate; completes detailed written shift reports; may carry a watch tour clock or similar device to record patrols.
2. Directs firefighting activities; inspects buildings for fire and safety hazards; enforces fire and safety rules; participates in fire drills and safety programs; collaborates with local fire departments.
3. Directs traffic on hospital property; enforces traffic and parking regulations; assists with vehicle problems for patients, visitors, and employees.
4. Provides routine escort and emergent delivery services within campus facilities.
5. Participates in orientation of new employees and students regarding fire, safety, and security policies; trains in firefighting techniques and equipment use.
6. Locks all designated doors after hours; unlocks doors at the start of business hours.
7. Operates security technology including computers, CCTV, fire alarm, access control, security alarm systems, and radios.
8. Performs emergency and hazardous material response services as per training, policy, and equipment capabilities.
9. Contributes to site emergency management plans through security and emergency services.
10. Trains in Hospital Emergency Incident Command System roles.
11. Sets up and manages duties related to Emergency Operations Center.
12. Investigates complaints from employees, visitors, and patients; collaborates with police and authorities.
13. Completes detailed incident, theft, and loss reports.
14. Assists in locating patients and responding to requests for help; supports Life Flight operations as needed.
15. Performs prisoner escort duties following protocol.
16. Assists and directs patients and visitors; provides information and assistance, including support for handicapped, wheelchair, and elderly persons; maintains adequate wheelchairs at hospital entrances.
