Job description

Job Summary: Responsible for maintaining safety and security within an assigned area. Ensures the safety of patients, visitors, and staff by conducting routine patrols to prevent risks. Meets qualifications to care for patients in the designated age group. Responds to emergencies such as fires and hazardous material incidents. Handles conflict and stressful situations regularly. Performs foot and vehicle patrols of facilities and grounds. Must be physically capable of performing essential duties.

Job Duties:

  1. Conducts patrols on foot or by vehicle, enforces hospital rules, reports issues, and completes shift reports.
  2. Leads firefighting efforts, inspects for hazards, enforces safety rules, and cooperates with fire departments.
  3. Manages traffic, enforces parking regulations, and assists with vehicle problems.
  4. Provides escort and delivery services across campus.
  5. Participates in orientation and training of staff and students on fire, safety, and security protocols.
  6. Locks/unlocks designated doors outside of business hours.
  7. Operates security systems including CCTV, fire alarms, access controls, and radios.
  8. Responds to emergencies and hazardous materials per training and policy.
  9. Supports site emergency management plans and trains in Hospital Emergency Incident Command System roles.
  10. Assists with Emergency Operations Center setup.
  11. Investigates complaints and collaborates with law enforcement.
  12. Documents incidents, thefts, and losses.
  13. Assists with patient location and transfers, including support for Life Flight operations.
  14. Performs prisoner escort duties as per protocol.
  15. Guides patients and visitors, provides information, and assists handicapped or elderly persons.
  16. Accountability includes compliance with policies and additional department-specific training. The profile highlights essential elements for successful job performance.

    Position Details:

    Specific to GLH employees:

  • Must complete or hold current Emergency Vehicle Operator's Certification (EMSVO) approved by PA DoH within 90 days of hire and maintain it.
  • Drives ambulance to transport flight crews and patients, assisting with patient lifting/movement as needed. Ensures vehicle readiness and reports issues.

Education: High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Experience: At least 1 year of related work experience (Preferred)

Certifications: Valid Driver's License
