Security Officer I

Part-time or Full-time

Nights, Thursday - Saturday

Location: Dubuque, IA

Responsible for providing security screening services to create a safe and secure environment for the hospital community. The Security Officer undertakes activities designed to identify, deter, abate, or correct situations—both routine and emergent—that are within the scope of responsibility for the department, on hospital-owned or controlled property.

Responsibilities

Physical Environment of Care

• Patrol hospital buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders.
• Monitor visitor conduct on hospital premises.
• Question unauthorized persons as needed.
• Screen visitors, patients, and staff at entrances.
• Report safety hazards and security violations.

Departmental Support

• Complete incident reports for security concerns and relay safety information appropriately.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Identify items minimally required to perform essential functions.

Preferred or Specialized

Not required for essential functions.

Education

High school diploma or higher; associate or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, or related field preferred.

Experience

Military, law enforcement, or security experience highly preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

Valid driver’s license when operating work-related vehicles.

Skills and Abilities

Ability to de-escalate violent or disruptive behavior; strong observation skills; critical thinking in high-stress situations.

Other

Use of standard equipment for security functions.
