Job summary

Pioneer Library System seeks a part-time Security Officer to protect library customers and assets. You will respond to emergencies in library properties and work under the Safety and Security Coordinator, with duties as assigned.

Flexible evenings and weekends required, and mandatory orientation in Norman, OK. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, one year of security or related military experience, armed CLEET certification, English proficiency, and a valid driver’s license.

Job DetailsPosition Type: Part TimeSalary Range: $30.00 HourlyJob Shift: AnyPart-time hourly positions,Cleveland County locations (to be determined at a later date).

Hours will vary weekly based on Branch/Department demands. Must be available to work a flexible schedule primarily evenings and weekends, and must attend up to two weeks of “Mandatory New Hire Orientation & Training” located at the Administrative Offices in Norman.

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides a safe and secure environment for all library customers and assigned library staff and protects the physical assets of the library; responds to all emergency situations in assigned library building, library grounds and parking lots. Works under the direction of the Safety and Security Coordinator and performs other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education and/or experience

• High school diploma or equivalent;
• One year of experience in security, law enforcement or related military experience; prior military personnel must have received an honorable discharge and a minimum of six months experience in security;
• Armed CLEET certification is required; must meet CLEET continuous education requirements;
• Ability to read, write and speak the English language;
• Or equivalent combination of technical training, education and/or experience may be considered;
• Valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to gain working knowledge of Pioneer Library System policies and procedures;
• Working knowledge of law enforcement theory and practice in order to function as a Security Officer;
• Applicable state, federal and local ordinances, laws, rules and regulations;
• Skills in interviewing and interrogation;
• Skill in the use of tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established library guidelines to ensure behavior control.
• Ability to assume responsibility in emergency situations and control problems;
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where limited standardization exists;
• Ability to present ideas and facts in a clear and concise manner in both written and verbal communications.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, etc.
• Physical ability to run after/apprehend suspects and strength to sustain dominance over unruly suspects as occasionally required;
• Working knowledge in the operation of computers, office machines, and standard office software products for the completion of routine reports and correspondence;
• Work a flexible schedule primarily evenings and weekends.
