Job summary

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Security Officer GG-0080-13 to work at the Wing, 412 TW/XP2, Intelligence Office (412TW/XP2) at Edwards Air Force Base.

Manage all functions as the Chief, Special Security Office (also referred to as SSO). This office is the single point of contact and office of primary responsibility (OPR) for all Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and intelligence information security functions and information assurance actions. The SSO gives the Air Force exclusive, responsive, and secure means to receive, store, send, use, and protect SCI. As the lead agency on Edwards AFB for SCI matters, the SSO is responsible for all physical, personnel, information and AIS security matters involving SCI or intelligence information. The SSO is responsible to manage access and provide security oversight for all individuals working with SCI materials in accordance with Intelligence Community Directives (ICDs). The SSO has full authority to investigate SCI security incidents, compromises or attempts by individuals to obtain SCI information without appropriate access. The SSO is responsible to write all SCI security and intelligence clauses for multi-discipline SCI contracts awarded through Edwards AFB. The SSO provides security oversight for Edwards AFB SCI contracts and works with contractor security officers to ensure compliance with SCI directives.

Typical 2026 salary range: $124,085-$161,313 per year (includes locality)

Major Duties:

Serves as Chief, Special Security Office (SSO), leading the 412 TW SCI program; directs security compliance for SCIFs, collaborates with program managers on RDT&E requirements, and coordinates with national agencies to meet mission objectives.

Implements national and DoD security policies to establish local SCI guidance; manages critical SCIF documentation (FFCs, EAPs, SOPs), and oversees contract security lifecycles to ensure contractor personnel compliance.

Exercises full authority over the 412 TW SCI security program; investigates incidents, makes on-the-spot decisions to halt operations during compromises, and manages the entire personnel security lifecycle, including billet management and clearance nominations.

Partners with systems security managers to secure information systems through risk audits and threat mitigation, while managing the SSO budget and POM inputs to fund future SCI facilities and infrastructure.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
• Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest

• Knowledge of a wide range of security concepts, principles, and practices to review, independently analyze, and resolve difficult and complex security problems; applies policy direction to contractors and government/military officials, and develop guidance for applying security policy, procedures, techniques, equipment, and methods to a variety of work situations and various levels or degrees of security controls.
• Knowledge of a broad range of security program relationships, and proficiency in information, personnel, and industrial security to effectively implement and administer applicable security programs and/or coordinate with other specialized security programs.
• Knowledge of security classification methods, concepts, and eligibility for access to classified or sensitive information to review plans for proposed or new projects, organizations, and/or missions to assure the presence of adequate planning for information security and other controls.
• Knowledge of required security training concepts, programs, and procedures to develop security education programs, provide training, and assist in operating security programs.
