Job summary

Avera McKennan Hospital is seeking a Security Officer to protect patients, staff, and visitors. You will patrol facilities, monitor visitor conduct, report hazards, and assist with investigations while coordinating with hospital personnel. The role emphasizes safety, communication, and teamwork within a fast-paced healthcare setting.

The position is full-time with Day/Evening/Weekend/Holiday shifts; PTO begins day one, and there is opportunity for growth through mentorship and hands-on training.

Qualifications

  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol hospital buildings and premises to prevent hazards and unauthorized access.
  • Monitor and control parking and traffic flow; enforce regulations.
  • Report safety hazards, conduct investigations, and prepare incident reports.
  • Provide escorts and assist with securing offices and valuables as needed.
  • Respond to emergency codes and CARE Flight operations as necessary.

Work where you matter.A Brief OverviewResponsible to provide security for patients, employees, and visitors; protects hospital buildings, assesses, and premises as assigned. Also provides traffic control and maintains parking lots and structures.What you will doPatrol hospital buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders.Monitor conduct of visitors on hospital premises. Confront unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.Report safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.Respond to inquiries for advice or assistance from hospital personnel, students, and visitors. Provide restraints for psychiatric patients as needed. Escort personnel to parking lots and hospital buildings as requested.Participate in investigations; Maintain records and prepare incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.Secure and/or unlock offices and facilities as required. May secure patient valuables or lost and found articles. Maintains log of items received.Control parking and traffic flow. Enforce parking regulations.Respond to all emergency codes and security requests (i.e. Staff Assist, Security Alert, Fire alarms). Respond to CARE Flight operations as needed.Mentors security interns in the role of security. Serves as a liaison to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.Essential QualificationsThe individual must be able to work the hours specified.
