Job summary

Essex County College is seeking a Security Officer to patrol campus premises, deter theft and enforce rules while adhering to state laws and city ordinances. The role includes information provision, incident reporting, and collaboration with law enforcement as needed.

Open to authorization to work in the United States; competitive starting salary of $33,140 plus a comprehensive benefits package including health, pension, tuition waivers, and development opportunities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have a clean police record including a successful fingerprint/records check.
• Ability to complete a three month probationary period.
• Ability to pass physical examination requirements as established by College Health Services.
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
• Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

Responsibilities

• Check building security and protect college and individual property.
• Provide information, prevent unauthorized entry and preserve the peace within college regulations, state laws and city ordinances.
• Monitor traffic and parking lots.
• Report traffic, safety and/or security infractions.
• Participate in ID checks, investigations, bomb threat searches, fire drills and other similar actions.
• Assist police officers as necessary.
• Complete routine and special reports as required.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Under the supervision of the Director of Security or designee, the Security Officer stands or walks about premises to prevent theft, violence, or infractions of rules and regulations of the institution as they apply to state laws and city ordinances.

Additional Requirements
