The Danforth Plant Science Center seeks an experienced security professional for the position of Security Manager. This is a full-time, exempt position, based at our main campus in Creve Coeur, Missouri, with regular working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The Security Manager must also be available on a 24/7 on-call basis to respond to emergencies, critical incidents, or other urgent security concerns outside of normal hours. The successful candidate will lead the department during a transition period as the current Security Manager prepares to retire in mid-2025.

This position reports to the Vice President of Facilities and Special Services. Responsibilities include overseeing security operations, developing policies, managing personnel, conducting risk assessments, investigating breaches, and ensuring compliance with regulations to safeguard assets, employees, and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Manage security personnel: hiring, training, supervision
• Develop and enforce security policies and protocols

• Investigate security breaches and coordinate responses
• Oversee surveillance and security monitoring systems
• Ensure compliance with security standards and regulations
• Maintain relationships with law enforcement agencies
• Provide security awareness training to staff
• Manage security department budget
• Oversee facility life safety contracts including fire safety, elevators, and systems
• Manage key control operations
• Coordinate with external contractors and leaseholders
• Assist with visitor check-in and security during events and tours
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Minimum 3 years as a Security Manager managing multiple officers

Qualifications

• Security Officer license from St. Louis County Police Department
• At least an Associate's Degree; Bachelor's preferred
