Job summary

Johnson Public Library in Hackensack, under the Bergen County Cooperative Library System, is seeking a Security Guard to patrol facilities and enforce rules. The role protects the library against fire, theft, vandalism, and unauthorized entry, with non-armed status and police support for detentions or expulsions.

The position also acts as a back-up to maintenance staff and handles moderately strenuous cleaning and upkeep tasks across the building and grounds.

Qualifications

• Background check required.
• NJ Driver’s license required.
• Experience dealing with aggressive behavior preferred.

Responsibilities

• Patrols the grounds, library facilities and premises.
• Enforces Behavior Rules and library policies.
• Guards against fire, theft, vandalism and unauthorized entry; performs related duties.
• Not an armed position; police may be called for detention/expulsion.
• Serves as back-up to maintenance staff.
• Performs cleaning and maintenance tasks as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Security Guard at Johnson Public Library, Hackensack

Responsibilities

• Patrols the grounds and other areas and facilities of the library.
• Enforces the Behavior Rules and other policies for the library users.
• Guards and protects the library against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal or unauthorized entry; does other related duties as required.
• Not an armed position.
• Police are called for any person’s detention or forced expulsion.
• Also serves as back up to maintenance staff.
• Moderately strenuous tasks involved in cleaning and maintaining the building, equipment and grounds.
• Other duties as assigned.

Schedule

Monday to Thursday 1-9, alternating Fridays/Saturdays, 8 to 5 with some flexibility to cover vacations of other staff. Must be available by phone for building emergencies.

Requirements

• Background check, NJ Driver’s license.
• Ideal candidate should have had training in dealing effectively with aggressive behavior.

Salary

Salary: starting at 53k annually with an excellent benefits package
