Job summary

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is seeking a Security Guard I at our Middletown, NJ location to help protect patients, visitors, and staff on a daily basis. You will monitor entrances, patrol premises, and respond to incidents with a calm, professional demeanor.

Ideal candidates will hold New Jersey SORA certification, be able to stand or walk for long periods outdoors, and communicate clearly in writing. Weekend availability and flexibility are required for full-time shifts.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Monitor building entrances, interior spaces, parking areas, and exterior perimeters to maintain safety and access control.

• De-escalate disruptive situations using sound judgment and professionalism.
• Investigate incidents and complete accurate written reports.

At MSK, safety is essential to patient care. As part of our Security team, you will help maintain a secure, safe, and welcoming environment by monitoring building entrances and perimeters, responding to incidents and emergencies, preparing reports, and assisting patients, visitors, and staff when needed.

Role Overview

• Monitor building entrances, interior spaces, parking areas, and exterior perimeters to maintain safety and access control
• Conduct routine patrols and remain alert to potential safety or security concerns throughout the facility
• Respond promptly and professionally to alarms, emergencies, incidents, and requests for assistance
• De-escalate disruptive or challenging situations using sound judgment and professionalism
• Investigate incidents and complete accurate and detailed written reports
• Operate surveillance systems, access control systems, and other security-related technology
• Collaborate with clinical, operational, and facilities teams to support a safe patient care environment
• Provide excellent customer service while maintaining professionalism, integrity, and a visible security presence
• Support emergency preparedness and response procedures as needed

Key Qualifications

• Valid New Jersey SORA Certification required
• Prior experience working as a Security Guard or in a related public safety or customer-facing role preferred
• Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods, including outdoors and during varying weather conditions
• Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency or fast-paced situations
• Experience handling conflict resolution and de-escalating difficult interactions preferred
• Basic knowledge of emergency response procedures and security best practices
• Strong written communication skills with the ability to document incidents clearly and accurately
• Basic computer proficiency and comfort using security and reporting systems
