Job summary

Home/Life Services Inc. in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a Security Guard to protect our facility and residents. You will report to the Security Supervisor and help maintain a safe, secure environment for families served.

Requirements include a valid NYS Security License, Fire Guard Certification (F02), and 40-hour DHS training within one week of employment. This is a full-time, non-exempt, on-site position in Brooklyn.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid NYS Security License and Fire Guard Certification (F02) required.
• 2–3 years of security experience preferred.
• Must complete 40‑hour DHS training within 1 week of employment.
• Ability to make clear decisions and handle situations fairly.
• Ability to interact effectively with staff and client population.
• Ability to work well under pressure in stressful situations.
• Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Willingness to stay post for relief and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Ensure a secure environment for residents, staff, visitors, and volunteers.
• Participate in fire drills as an active member of the fire brigade.
• Conduct monthly Fire Safety/Extinguisher inspections as necessary.
• Assist with emergency evacuations.
• Respond to crises using nonphysical methods and follow protocol.
• Patrol interior/exterior areas and report observations to supervisor.
• Monitor residents for signs of substance abuse, child abuse, and criminal activity.
• Monitor CCTV and log activities that violate safety protocols.

Operating from a client centered perspective, Home/Life provides a safe and therapeutic environment that supports the social and economic independence of its families served. By developing and implementing innovative services and programs within our Families with Children’s facilities, we provide case management and job counseling, as well as help our families access the economic housing support that allows them to enter and stay in permanenthousing.

Under the direction of the Security Supervisor, The Security Guard is responsible for providing security to the facility and for ensuring that all residents are observing facility rules. Must have a valid NYS Security Guard License, NYS Fire Guard Certification (F02), and First Aid & CPR Training.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of the Security Guard include but not limited to:

Administrative:

• Maintains daily log, visitor and resident daily and nightly sign-in logs, and other records in an accurate timelymanner
• Must report Priority One incidents to Director of Security and Program Director within 30 minutes of occurrence

Programmatic Achievement:

• Helps ensure a secure and functional environment for the residents, staff, visitors, andvolunteers
• Participates in fire drills as an active member of the firebrigade
• Conducts monthly Fire Safety/Fire Extinguisher inspections as necessary
• Helps with emergencyevacuations
• Responds to crisis situations using nonphysical methods and follows Home/Life protocol by deciding what actions are needed, informing supervisor of actions taken, and following up as needed through log book, written note, or telephoneconversation
• Patrols the interior/exterior of building, surrounding perimeter, and client dormitories, reporting observations to supervisor
• Continuously observes all residents and develops the ability to recognize signs of substance abuse, child abuse, and criminal activity and immediately advises the appropriate staff and works with the facility team to conduct investigations, asappropriate
• Monitors CCTV system, immediately reports to supervisor activities that violate safety andsecurity protocols, and logs observations
• In the event of an emergency, Essential Employees are required to report to work as scheduled

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• High School diploma or equivalentrequired
• Valid NYS Security License and Fire Guard Certification (F02)required
• Two to three (2-3) years of security experiencepreferred
• Must complete DHS 40-hour training within 1 week ofemployment
• Must be able to make clear decisions and handle situationsfairly
• Must be able to interact effectively with the facility staff and clientpopulation
• Must be able to work well under pressure and during stressfulsituations
• Must be willing and able to be certified in FirstAid/CPR
• Must be able to work effectively in a teamenvironment
• Must be able to communicate effectively (verbally and inwriting)
• Must be willing and able to remain at post beyond regularly scheduled hours for appropriate relief, if necessary
• Must be able to perform physical activities such as run, lift at least 50lbsetc.
• Ability to stand for long periods oftime
• Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
