Position Title: Security Guard

Accountability: Security Guard reports to the Director of Events

Job Classification: Part-time, hourly, non-exempt

About: Daniel Stowe Conservancy (Stowe) inspires a love of nature and its beauty through unforgettable outdoor experiences. The nearly 400 acres of Stowe provides visitors with a chance to reconnect with nature in all seasons. The property welcomes guests to spectacular gardens, a conservatory dedicated to the display of tropical plants and orchids, sparkling fountains, 8 miles of trails, a dog park and 3 distinct retail locations.

The Security Guard is responsible for the safety and wellbeing of staff and guests throughout the Garden Pavilion and the Gardens at Stowe ensuring all guests abide by the rules of entrance into the Gardens, leads opening and closing procedures including locking of doors and gate, as well as adhering to and leading Stowe’s Emergency Action Plan if needed. An ideal candidate requires discipline and keen attention to detail while working events, ensuring safety and security protocols are met. The Security Guard must also be helpful, personable, and eager to serve our guests.

**This position will consistently be scheduled to work Friday and Saturday evenings when we are open to the public as well as the evenings the Garden Pavilion hosts public and private events.**

Responsibilities:

• Understands the importance of each guest to Stowe and drives excellence to ensure an optimal experience in every way.
• Oversees the security of staff and guests throughout the Garden Pavilion and Gardens at Stowe.
• Consistently maintains a safe and secure environment by foot patrolling and monitoring premises and personnel.
• Accurately and timely provides detailed written reports to management on daily activities, building activity, and any incidents that may occur.
• Adheres to Stowe’s Emergency Action Plan preparedness and protocols in coordination with staff for execution.
• Serves as a first responder to all significant occurrences with speed and accuracy.
• Conducts timely facility checks, ensuring safe and secure facilities and grounds.
• Actively responds to customer needs, seeking resolutions and satisfaction.
• Serves as the final checkpoint to secure all exits, doors and windows after end of operations, setting alarms and closing gates upon exit.
• Exemplifies Stowe’s Mission Statement and supports staff, departments and leadership in pursuing and achieving goals.
• Performs any other duties needed to help drive to our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our values.

Requirements

• Exhibits a passion for the mission of Daniel Stowe Conservancy.
• Successfully pass a standard background review.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must be willing to wear a uniform.
• Must be able to work inside and outside as needed during all types of weather.
• Ability to work evenings during weekends, weekdays, and federal holidays when the Garden is open.

Experience & Education:

• Minimum of a high school diploma, associate’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year experience serving in a security officer capacity.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a diverse audience.
• Ability to work in a team yet also independently.
