Job summary

The New York Times is seeking an Engineering Manager for Cybersecurity to lead Security Engineering platforms and services that keep our systems secure at scale. You will partner with Cybersecurity, Developer Platforms, Enterprise Technology and Product Engineering to deliver reliable, developer-friendly security capabilities across the organization.

This hands-on leadership role balances people management with technical decision-making, coaching engineers, shaping roadmaps, and guiding

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of experience leading engineers as a people manager or tech lead in security engineering or related fields.
• Experience running production workloads in public cloud platforms (AWS and/or GCP).
• Hands-on with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and container orchestration (Kubernetes/ECS).
• Strong understanding of identity, encryption, vulnerability management, network security and authentication.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a Security Engineering team responsible for core security platforms and tooling.
• Define vision, direction, and strategy for the Security Engineering function.
• Own team execution from roadmap to rollout and operations for security services.
• Create an environment prioritizing context over control, providing patterns and tooling for secure product delivery.
