Job summary

Block, Inc. is seeking a data scientist for Risk and Support Operations to turn complex customer data into decisive insights. You will partner with product, engineering, and risk teams to define metrics, run experiments, and translate analysis into decisions.

In this agentic role, you’ll leverage AI tools and agent workflows to speed up exploration, automate repetitive tasks, and stress-test conclusions, while developing scalable measurement frameworks and mentoring junior data scientists.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in statistics, data science, economics, CS, or similar; 12+ years in a relevant role, or a graduate degree with 6–8+ years.
• Advanced proficiency with SQL and the ability to create decision-oriented visualizations.
• Strong product, analytical, and statistical judgment to turn questions into analyses; communicate tradeoffs.
• Experience using AI tools to improve speed, quality, and durability of analytical work.

Responsibilities

• Turn complex product, customer, and risk data into clear insights and durable measurement systems.
• Use AI tools and agent workflows to improve the speed and quality of analytical work.
• Own end-to-end analysis: metrics, experimentation, forecasting, visualization, decision support.
• Define measurement frameworks for Support and Risk Operations; forecast contact demand and staffing.
• Collaborate with risk teams to evaluate model performance and connect decisions to business impact.
• Design experiments and rollouts to shape customer access and product growth.
• Approach questions from first principles with statistical cohorts and relevant metrics.
• Communicate insights clearly to stakeholders including senior decision-makers.
• Lead technical direction and create reusable frameworks and scalable tooling.
• Drive cross-team impact by aligning DS work with broader strategy; mentor junior data scientists.

Education

Bachelor's degree + 12+ years experience in quantitative field

Graduate degree + 6-8+ years experience in quantitative field
