Job summary

Salient in San Francisco is seeking a hands-on Lead Security Engineer to build a repeatable security operating system. This Staff-level IC reports to senior leadership and will be the sole dedicated security hire, supported by infrastructure, IT, and People Operations.

You will own compliance operations, boundary testing, access and vulnerability management, detection and response, and automation to make it repeatable and provable.

Qualifications

• You are a software engineer first: write production-quality code and build tested tooling.
• Hands-on experience securing cloud infrastructure and IAM/PAM.
• Experience with audits and security controls preferred.
• Able to explain tradeoffs to leadership.

Responsibilities

• Own SOC 2, PCI, and bank security controls and audit evidence.
• Perform security testing across cloud/IAM, applications, payments, and AI.
• Investigate access anomalies.
• Improve IAM/PAM controls and monitoring.
• Run vulnerability scanning and track remediation.
• Develop runbooks and automation for security controls.
