Job summary

The Nuclear Company in Washington, DC is hiring a Security Engineer Intern for a six-month Spring 2027 co-op, on-site three days a week. You’ll work with the Product Security team on application and cloud security, and governance, risk, and compliance (GRC). A mentor will help you own a scoped project from design to delivery.

Candidates are pursuing a BS in a technical field and have completed a relevant project. U.S. Person status is required; visas are not sponsored.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field.
• Completed a working technical project through coursework, independent work, a student team, or a prior internship.
• Ability to explain technical work clearly to engineers.
• U.S. Person status required; company does not sponsor visas.

Responsibilities

• Build scripts, tools, and automation for secure software.
• Identify and address security risks in applications, APIs, AWS workloads, and pipelines.
• Participate in threat modeling, design and code reviews, and security testing.
• Improve security visibility and detections for cloud workloads.
• Investigate findings from security tools and implement fixes with engineers.
• Document work to enable reuse across teams.
