Job summary

Loft Federal is seeking a Software Engineer with security experience to design and secure systems for national security space missions. You will own the security architecture from day one and work with a senior team to deliver mission-ready solutions.

You will collaborate with software, systems, and mission engineers, embedding security across the lifecycle—from architecture through authorization and continuous monitoring.

Qualifications

• Active Top Secret clearance (TS/SCI preferred).
• Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• One IAT Level III certification: CISSP, SecurityX (CASP+), CCNP, or CCSP.
• 5+ years of software engineering with a security focus.
• Hands-on experience with C++ and Python.
• Experience implementing DoD RMF and NIST SP 800-53 controls.
• Experience building RMF artifacts and supporting ATO efforts.
• Knowledge of system hardening and vulnerability management.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• On-site work 3 days per week; travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Build cybersecurity into design and development of space and ground systems.
• Design secure architectures aligned to RMF and DoD requirements.
• Identify and remediate vulnerabilities with engineering teams.
• Support system hardening, vulnerability management, and monitoring.
• Lead security architecture reviews, threat modeling, and risk assessments.
• Integrate security into automated pipelines with DevSecOps teams.
• Engage with government customers, ISSMs, and program teams for compliance.
