Job summary

Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi seeks an entry-level Security Analyst I to monitor, document, and respond to security events within the campus IT environment. Under CISO supervision, you will support security controls, perform routine analyses, and coordinate remediation with responsible teams.

The role emphasizes monitoring, reporting, and training activities to enhance security awareness across departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an applicable field.
• Four months of related experience.
• High School Diploma or GED with four years and four months related experience.
• Associate's degree and two years four months related experience.
• IT related experience.
• Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the presence of management and security agents on all university-owned assets and coordinate with responsible teams to remediate any deficiencies.
• Verify that systems adhere to baseline security configurations and document deviations through the change control process.
• Conduct account reviews to ensure only authorized personnel can access university resources and the principle of least privilege is maintained.
• Manage software reviews to ensure operating systems and applications are running supported versions.
• Coordinate with responsible teams to remediate any deficiencies.
• Respond to security alerts (including outside normal business hours), performing initial triage, documentation, and escalation of potential security incidents.
• Prepare monthly reports on non-compliance for security related issues.
• Review security exception requests from various departments.
• Monitor security ticketing queue to ensure tickets are properly addressed quickly.
• Help to update, maintain, and document security controls and procedures.
• Provide direct support to the client and internal IT groups for security related issues.
• Facilitate periodic security awareness training and phishing simulations for staff to mitigate social engineering risks.
• Engage as a security advocate by meeting regularly with IT teams and stakeholders to discuss security issues.
• Support the Security Analyst II and cross-train to provide coverage during SA II absence.
• Evaluate security products, services, and procedures to enhance productivity and effectiveness.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education
