Job summary

Texas A&M University–Kingsville invites applications for a Security Analyst I to protect TAMUK information systems, networks and data from cyber threats. Location: The University is located in historic Kingsville, a friendly, safe city of 25,000 that is the home of the legendary King Ranch. Corpus Christi and its beaches are just 40 miles to the northeast, and the border with Mexico is 120 miles to the south at Brownsville or 119 miles to the west at Laredo.

Position Overview

The Security Analyst I, under general direction of TAMUK leadership and assisting the TAMU Cybersecurity team, will be responsible for protecting the TAMUK information systems, networks and data from cyber threats. They will work hand-in-hand with the TAMU Cybersecurity team to help identify vulnerabilities, monitor for suspicious activity, and implement controls to help prevent or mitigate security incidents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Security Operations & Incident Management: Monitor and maintain data security profiles to identify potential risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Monitor security alerts and elevate incidents in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assist in developing risk assessment scenarios, documenting findings, and supporting incident response procedures.
  • Document and maintain records of security incidents, investigations, response activities, security plans, methodologies, and procedures.
  • Support vulnerability management activities, including reviewing scan results and assisting with remediation efforts.
  • Stay current with emerging cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices.
  • Security Compliance, Governance & Risk Management: Assist in enforcing and auditing information security policies, standards, and procedures, including user access management, firewall security oversight, encryption practices, and breach escalation processes.
  • Participate in security audits, compliance reviews, and investigations involving security exceptions or policy violations.
  • Update, maintain, and document security controls, standards, and operational procedures.
  • Assist in developing and documenting risk assessments and security recommendations.
  • Evaluate security tools, products, services, and processes to improve operational efficiency and strengthen the organization’s security posture.
  • Security Support, Consulting & Technology Implementation: Provide first-level support to clients and internal IT teams on information security issues and security-related requests.
  • Advise technical staff, system administrators, and business stakeholders on security best practices during the design, implementation, and maintenance of systems and infrastructure.
  • Assist with the deployment, configuration, testing, and integration of new security technologies and IT systems.
  • Collaborate with business units and IT teams to ensure security requirements are incorporated into operational processes and technology solutions.

The following conditions apply. This position is security sensitive. This position will require export-control authorization prior to starting employment. This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures. All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements. This position may require work beyond the normal office hours and/or work on weekends depending on the project or task.

Additional Information

A federal proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on new H-1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025. Texas A&M University-Kingsville will not pay this fee.
