Job summary

Alvarado Street Brewery seeks a security associate for our Monterey pub. This hourly role focuses on safety, orderly guest flow, and proactive behavior management in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities include monitoring patron behavior, providing early warnings, and coordinating with management. Must hold a state security guard license, drive legally, and be able to work varied shifts, including weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Monitor patron behavior and level of intoxication.
• Identify and provide early warning for sketchy behavior.
• Use eye contact and body language to deter trouble.
• Warn patrons with discreet comments to resolve issues early.
• Remove obnoxious and offensive persons.
• Maintain professionalism at all times and when asking patrons to leave.
• Use force only in self-defense or detention for police.
• Call the police to enforce criminal acts as needed.
• In collaboration with the Manager, control over-crowding and restaurant intensity.
• Write incident reports for record-keeping purposes.
• Resolve conflicts and restrain anyone who fights; care for patrons.
• Direct communication with manager to resolve guest problems.
• Report pressing security matters to GM and local authorities as needed.
• Other tasks as assigned; comply with safety and health policies.

Job description

OVERALL

This key position is responsible for maintaining orderliness and ensuring the safety of our guests and staff. by proactively observing and warding off any unruly behavior. This position is located at our Monterey pub and is an hourly position with hours that will vary based on business needs. Weekend availability a must.

EVERYDAY ESSENTIAL TASKS

• Monitor patron behavior and level of intoxication.
• Identify and provide early warning for sketchy behavior
• Use eye contact and body language to let troublesome patrons know that their conduct is reaching the threshold for unacceptable behavior.
• Warn patrons who are exhibiting objectionable behavior with a well-timed and discreet comment to resolve objectionable behavior in early stages.
• Remove obnoxious and offensive persons.
• Maintain professionalism at all times and especially when asking patrons to leave.
• Use force only in self-defense or detention for police.
• Calls the police to enforce criminal acts, as required.
• In collaboration with the Manager, control over-crowding and restaurant intensity.
• Under the direction of and in collaboration with the General Manager, writes up incident reports for record-keeping purposes.
• Resolves conflicts and restrains anyone who gets into a fight, takes care of patrons' welfare
• Resolve guest problems whenever possible and direct communication with manager
• Reporting pressing security-related matters to the General Manager and local authorities as needed.
• Other various tasks as assigned
• Comply with all Company safety and health policies and procedures

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Valid State Driver’s License.
• Valid State Security Guard Card License.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

• Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
• Ability to remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
• Ability to move or adjust objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc.
• Repeat motions that may include using various body parts
• Ability to move in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including low temperatures, high temperatures, outdoor elements, noisy environments, enclosed spaces, etc.
• Able to comply with and enforce all health, safety, and personal hygiene policies and standards.

ABOUT ALVARADO STREET BREWERY

Alvarado Street Brewery was founded by father-son duo John and J.C. Hill in March of 2014. What started as a neighborhood brewery restaurant in Downtown Monterey has evolved into four locations dedicated to serving Monterey county’s locals and visitors alike. Our production brewery & tasting room opened in the Spreckels Junction area of Salinas in 2016. In early 2018 we opened our R&D pilot brewery and bistro in Carmel-by-the-Sea, known as the 'Stro'. Most recently in November of 2022, we opened Alvarado Street Brewery & Taproom, an art deco styled restaurant and bar in the center of Oldtown Salinas.
