Job summary

San Francisco VA Health Care System seeks a full-time Section Chief of Microbiology, affiliated with UCSF, to lead the Laboratory Medicine Service. The appointee will oversee microbiology operations, work with Infectious Diseases and Infection Control, and support clinical and translational research.

Applicants should hold an MD (or MD/PhD), be K-licensure eligible in California, and be board-certified in CP, AP/CP or ID. Teaching and scholarly activity are encouraged.

Qualifications

• Must hold an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. with California medical licensure or eligibility.
• Board certified in CP, AP/CP or Infectious Disease; subspecialty in Medical Microbiology preferred.
• Interest/experience in molecular diagnostics and clinical laboratory management highly desirable.
• Physician-scientists with interest in basic or translational research are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Lead the daily operations of the Microbiology Section at VAHCS.
• Collaborate with Infectious Diseases and Infection Control teams.
• Oversee diagnostic molecular microbiology testing and related services.
• Provide teaching and mentorship at resident/fellow and medical student levels.
