Strauss Esmay Associates, LLP supports a district by hiring a Secretary, Category 6 to perform diverse clerical duties, attendance records, and confidential tasks. Position Summary: Responsible for performing a variety of general and specialized clerical duties requiring the application of standard procedures with minor discretion within a school or in a department.
Work Hours: Monday through Friday. Specific work hours will be established to best support the respective needs of the position’s placement. Work hours are subject to change at management’s discretion to best support District needs.
1. Minimum of a high school diploma; Associates Degree and previous secretarial experience preferred.
2. Demonstrate strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.

Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: a thorough understanding of applicable laws, codes, rules, regulations and safety standards related to child care, and the New Jersey Department of Education's Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards and the Preschool Implementation Guidelines, scheduling; concepts of grammar and punctuation; technical skills, web-based programs; understand District organization, operations, policies and objectives; apply appropriate codes, laws, regulations, policies and procedures; operate a computer and assigned software and maintain records and prepare reports.

14. Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and clearance has been given by the New Jersey Department of Education.
15. Provide a sworn statement that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person’s offense in accordance with N.J.S.A. 18A:6-7.1 during the initial six- month employment period.
16. Pass the State required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by law.

1. Advanced clerical duties including using computers for various applications, such as database management or word processing.
2. Answer telephones and give information to callers, take messages, or transfer calls to appropriate individuals.
3. Greet visitors or callers and handle their inquiries or direct them to the appropriate persons according to their needs.
4. Operate office equipment, such as fax machines, copiers, or phone systems and arrange for repairs when equipment malfunctions.
5. Set up and manage paper or electronic filing systems, recording information, updating paperwork, or maintaining documents, such as attendance records, correspondence, or other material.
6. Document accurately daily student attendance and monitor for trends. Communicate with administrators regarding any student attendance concerns.
7. Draft and edit correspondence and forms specific to the position and department needs.
8. Performing bookkeeping tasks; including but not limited to Scheduling administrative appointments, handling phone inquiries, communicating with other departments on own initiative.
9. Handling incoming and outgoing mail.
10. Ordering supplies for department; requesting maintenance services for office equipment as needed.
11. Manages input of attendance for department or school.
13. May direct other secretaries in fulfillment of duties; assisting other departmental secretarial staff and filling in for secretary absences.
14. Performing advanced duties applicable to assigned school or functional department.
15. Establishes and maintains open and regular communications with administrators and staff throughout the district.
16. Establishment and maintenance of all applicable files.
17. Maintains confidentiality and integrity of all data/information accessed while performing the duties of the position.

Observe strictly to avoid the appearance of conflict, all requirements of the School Ethics Act (N.J.S.A. 18A:12-21 et seq.) regarding conflicts of interest in employment, purchasing, and other decisions, including solicitation and acceptance of gifts and favors, and submit in a timely fashion the required annual disclosure statement regarding employment and financial interests, as applicable.
28. Adhere to New Jersey school law, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies, regulations and procedures, and contractual obligations.
