Title: Early Learning Academy Preschool Instructor
Position Summary: The Early Learning Academy Preschool Instructor leads the preschool classroom including planning, organizing, and implementing an age-appropriate pre‑school program based on approved curriculum in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
Reports to: Senior Manager of Community Programs

Qualifications
- New Jersey P-3, N-8, or K-5 Certification.
- Experience and/or strong interest in working with school age children.
- Ability to facilitate small group activities.
- Ability to utilize various technology platforms including Outlook, Google Drive/Canvas, etc.
- Holds CPI, CPR and EpiPen certification, or is willing to be trained.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a school community.
- Hold a valid New Jersey driver’s license with no serious violations.
- Provide a medical certification demonstrating the ability to perform the essential job functions and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.3(a).

- Able to perform basic math, understand grammar and punctuation, read and comprehend information; possess knowledge‑based competencies required to perform the functions of the teaching assignment with proficiency; solve practical problems, facilitate group discussions; knowledge of New Jersey Student Learning Standards, curriculum, instructional methods, research‑based strategies, curriculum differentiation, implementing various forms of formative and summative assessment and able to gather and analyze data; understand child development, learning and behavior; demonstrate comprehension of relevant computer skills and knowledge of school standards and code of conduct.
- Plan and implement age‑appropriate curriculum‑based instruction, schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; work cooperatively in a variety of circumstances; problem solving to analyze situations and create action plans. Specific ability‑based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapt to changing work priorities; display tact and courtesy; establish and maintain effective working relationships; maintain confidentiality; meet deadlines and schedules; set priorities; work on a team, design coherent instruction, activities and assessments, evaluate and document student progress, grade homework, assignments and tests, deliver personalized instruction and comply with Board of Education Policies and Regulations.

- Communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
- Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status by completing Federal Form I‑9 in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
- Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and clearance has been given by the New Jersey Department of Education.
- Provide a sworn statement that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person’s offense in accordance with N.J.S.A. 18A:6-7.1 during the initial six‑month employment period.
- Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test in accordance with N.J.A.C 63-4A-4.
- Other qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools or her/his designee may find appropriate.
Job Functions & Responsibilities
- Provide quality instruction in accordance with teaching strategies, Creative Curriculum, Heggerty, and Fundations.
- Create an ongoing cycle of guiding student learning and assessing student progress. Utilize various interest areas and the schedule, as well as a variety of strategies, to motivate student learning and increase student skills, understanding, and knowledge.
- Meet the basic needs of the children and create an atmosphere where children are safe, feel emotionally secure, and have a sense of belonging.
- Create a classroom that encourages experimentation, exploration and pursuit of individual interests.
- Focus on the development of social and language skills.
- Structure the environment and activities based on the child’s cognitive development; varying complexity and level of choices. Provide many opportunities to work with concrete objects and encourage them to interact with others and learn about other perspectives.
- Establish a community where learning takes place through positive relationships.
- Maintain daily lesson plans for teaching and learning.
- Daily lessons should encompass a morning routine including a welcome song, calendar, weather, tally of days, question of the day, relevant literature, and discussions that promote interaction within the class.
- Review relevant concepts related to unit of study.
- Develop and implement rotating timed academic and play centers.
- Incorporate large and small group activities into daily schedule.
- Use creativity to reinforce lessons through books, projects, music/movement, fine/gross motor skills and a variety of classroom materials.
- Establish written instructional objectives and organize daily instruction based on those objectives; employs instructional methods and materials most appropriate to meeting stated objectives.
- Maintain complete and accurate attendance and evaluation records associated with learning objectives.
- Attend back to school night, staff meetings, participate in professional development in‑service activities.
- Maintain a professional presence, including appropriate attire and conduct.
- Use correct spoken and written English when communicating with students and parents.
- Arrange for supplies and equipment needed for instructional activities and maintain an organized classroom.
- Become familiar with available pupil data and utilize the data for the benefit of the student.
- Work cooperatively with other staff members and parents in resolving pupil, classroom, and curriculum concerns.
- Direct and guide classroom assistants to support student growth, classroom management and implementation of curriculum.
- Assume responsibility for supervision of students in areas other than the classroom.
- Adhere to school policies and procedures set forth by the Board of Education and building administrators.
- Demonstrate self‑control and display enthusiasm about work.
- Perform other duties which may be within the scope of his/her employment and certifications as may be assigned by his/her supervisors under authority of the Board of Education.
