Job summary

The Structures Company in Colorado Springs, CO is seeking a Systems Engineer 3 for a 12-month contract. The position requires an active Secret clearance and experience configuring and maintaining multi-vendor networks.

You will work with Cisco/Juniper hardware, firewalls, VLANs, routing (OSPF/BGP), and TCP/IP design, travel to remote sites, and support enterprise infrastructure. The role offers bonus potential and priority access via Tier 1 supplier.

Qualifications

• Active Secret Security Clearance required.
• Must be a U.S. Person (as defined by ITAR).
• Bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with experience in an engineering classification.
• IAT Level II 8570 Compliant Certification such as Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, or SCNA required.
• CCNA or JNCIA certification required.
• 3+ years of related experience in network engineering.
• Hands-on experience with multi-vendor switching and routing (Juniper, Cisco), WAN optimizer, TACLANEs, and optical transport equipment.
• Experience with firewall technologies including Juniper, Fortinet, and Palo Alto.
• Experience with UDP multicast, SONET, MSPP, VLANs, GRE Tunnels, and TCP/IP network designs.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, especially PowerPoint and Visio for technical presentations and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Configures and maintains network devices including routers, switches, and firewalls from vendors such as Cisco and Juniper Networks.
• Monitors network performance and availability, proactively identifying and resolving connectivity, latency, and packet loss issues.
• Implements and supports core networking technologies including VLANs, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), and basic network security controls.
• Troubleshoots network incidents across LAN/WAN environments, performing root cause analysis and documenting resolutions.
• Collaborates with cross-functional IT teams to support network changes, upgrades, and infrastructure projects.
• Travels to remote locations to lead and perform network installations, independently performs troubleshooting, and provides status updates to Program personnel.
• Applies understanding of OSI Model, TCP/IP, routing protocols BGP and OSPF for network design and troubleshooting.
• Performs network traffic analysis, diagnostics, and troubleshooting for production environments.
• Supports network design, development, and testing methodologies for enterprise infrastructure.
• Applies firewall experience with Juniper, Fortinet, and Palo Alto, and knowledge of UDP multicast, SONET, MSPP, VLANs, GRE Tunnels, and TCP/IP network designs.
