IDC Spring, a leading industrial springs company, seeks a Secondary Operator in Coon Rapids, MN. This full-time manual labor role supports grinding, bending, assembly, and loading operations for garage door springs per prints and QA standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Certified to operate a forklift or ability to obtain certification.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn manufacturing processes.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret job travelers, prints, instructions, data and weights; perform basic math.
  • Ability to read measurement instruments and operate basic hand tools.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.

Responsibilities

  • Catch springs from machines and sort into bins for next operations.
  • Grind springs to customer prints and quality requirements.
  • Form hooks, loops, and legs per print using fixtures and hand tools.
  • Load/unload ovens for stress-relief operations per temperature and timing.
  • Label and stage finished parts for efficient movement of material.
  • Maintain traceability of materials by tagging bins.
  • Record operations and scrap in ERP.
  • Perform quality checks to meet internal AQL standards.
  • Identify and record non-conforming material.
  • Maintain tooling and measurement instruments; follow safety and 5S standards.
  • Follow ISO processes and company policies.
  • Inform supervisors of progress, issues and rework needs.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.

How You Contribute to The Team

The secondary Operator is responsible for various tasks in the manufacturing of garage door springs according to customer and product specifications.

  • Catch springs from machines and sort into bins for next operations.
  • Grind springs to customer prints and quality requirements.
  • Form hooks, loops, and legs on parts per print using bending fixtures and hand tools.
  • Load and unload ovens for stress-relief operations according to temperature and timing requirements.
  • Load finished parts into bins, bags or pallets ensuring proper quantities.
  • Label, identify or tag product and stage for efficient movement of material.
  • Maintain traceability of materials by tagging bins.
  • Record completed operations and scrap in ERP.
  • Perform quality checks to meet internal AQL standards.
  • Identify and record non-conforming material.
  • Maintain and ensure proper use of tooling, measurement instruments, hand tools and equipment to ensure safe operations.
  • Demonstrate safe work habits, including wearing appropriate PPE and maintaining safe work processes. Maintain 5s standards.
  • Follow established systems, policies, procedures and ISO processes.
  • Keep supervisor(s) informed of progress, issues, quality concerns and rework needed.
  • Identify, recommend and implement opportunities for continuous improvement.

What You Need to Succeed

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Strong Interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Certified to operate a forklift or ability to obtain certification.
  • Possesses a mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn manufacturing processes.
  • A high level of attention to detail, organization and follow-through.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret job travelers, customer prints, technical instructions, manuals, data, formulas and weights. Performs basic math calculations, including addition, subtraction, fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to read measurement instruments (tape measure, caliper, etc.) and operate basic hand tools.
  • Certified to operate a forklift or ability to obtain certification.
  • Strong customer service (internal and external) focus.

Team members are paid weekly. The target hourly pay range is $19.00 to $20.50 depending on qualifications, experience, education, and other factors. A shift premium may be available depending upon shift and location.
