  • Provide small group and individualized instruction focused on phonological and phonemic awareness; sound-symbol correspondence; decoding and encoding (spelling); fluency and comprehension.
  • Utilize a multisensory approach to ensure access and engagement for all learners.
  • Maintain a strong focus on accelerating scholar achievement and closing literacy gaps.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, Special Education staff, and instructional leaders to align intervention with core instruction.
  • Support the development and implementation of IEPs and 504 Plans for eligible scholars.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding scholar progress and provide strategies for at-home support.

Job Description

At Friendship Public Charter School, the Secondary ELA Teacher at Lab School for Dyslexia plays a critical role in ensuring all scholars achieve literacy success. Under the direction of the Principal and in collaboration with the Special Education and Academic teams, this position provides targeted, research-based dyslexia intervention to scholars identified with reading difficulties. The Secondary ELA Teacher at Lab School for Dyslexia delivers structured, multisensory instruction to accelerate reading achievement and support scholars in reaching grade‑level proficiency.

Essential Responsibilities
Instruction & Intervention
  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based dyslexia intervention using structured literacy approaches
  • Provide small group and individualized instruction focused on:
  • Phonological and phonemic awareness
  • Sound-symbol correspondence
  • Decoding and encoding (spelling)
  • Fluency and comprehension
  • Utilize a multisensory approach to ensure access and engagement for all learners.
  • Maintain a strong focus on accelerating scholar achievement and closing literacy gaps.
Assessment & Progress Monitoring
  • Conduct dyslexia screenings and analyze literacy data to identify scholars in need of intervention.
  • Monitor scholar progress regularly and adjust instruction to ensure measurable growth.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation aligned with Friendship’s data-driven instructional model.
Collaboration & Scholar Support
  • Partner with general education teachers, Special Education staff, and instructional leaders to align intervention with core instruction.
  • Support the development and implementation of IEPs and 504 Plans for eligible scholars.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding scholar progress and provide strategies for at‑home support.
Curriculum & Program Implementation
  • Implement and adapt structured literacy curricula to meet diverse scholar needs.
