Job description

Friendship Public Charter School operates a network of high-performing, college-preparatory public charter schools serving students from pre-K3 through 12th grade. Our mission is to provide a world-class education that equips students with the knowledge, skills, and character necessary for success in college, career, and life.

Friendship Public Charter School seeks a Literacy Coach to strengthen ELA and reading instruction. The Coach supports up to 10 ELA and/or reading teachers in total through a coaching model that is formative and non evaluative. The Coach builds teacher capacity in the Science of Reading and in the effective implementation of Wit and Wisdom, Friendship's core ELA curriculum. The role uses the shared language of the Danielson Framework for Teaching as a common vocabulary for observation, feedback, and goal setting, fully separate from any formal evaluation process.

Reporting and Scope

  • Reports to the Director of Literacy, with close coordination alongside campus principals and each campus Instructional Leadership Team (ILT).
  • Serves up to 10 ELA and/or reading teachers.
  • Aligns coaching priorities with Friendship's districtwide goals to maintain consistency across the network.

The Coaching Model: Non-Evaluative by Design

The Literacy Coach observes instruction and gives feedback using the language and components of the Danielson Framework, primarily Domain 2 (The Classroom Environment) and Domain 3 (Instruction). This shared vocabulary gives the Coach and teachers a common reference point for describing practice and setting goals. The role is explicitly non-evaluative:

  • The Coach does not rate, score, or complete formal evaluations.
  • Observations and coaching conversations are formative and confidential.
  • The Coach does not contribute to personnel decisions or performance ratings.
  • The purpose is teacher growth.

We are seeking dedicated, mission-aligned professionals to join our team for the 2026–2027 school year. If you are committed to accelerating student achievement, fostering joyful and rigorous learning, and preparing students for bright postsecondary futures, we encourage you to apply.

We look forward to learning more about you and your passion for serving students in Washington, DC.
