Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The primary purpose of Parking Operations and Campus Access Management ( POCAM ) is to effectively manage scarce parking and transportation resources for the University community and its visitors. The unit is responsible for planning, development, maintenance, and administration of all parking services, facilities, operations, enforcement, transportation services, policy development and alternative transportation services. The unit conducts planning and design of transportation services and facilities and infrastructure and is a liaison with other University departments, schools, and colleges and represents the University’s transportation policies and interests with local and state agencies.
Position Summary
The position requires an individual who is energetic and customer service-oriented, with the ability to multi-task and process payments at the cashier window of the Walker Parking Deck. The position will monitor CCTV security system and act as dispatch for parking enforcement personnel. This position will also provide intercom/phone-based customer service and operate multiple parking management systems. This position oversees student employees to ensure necessary work is completed and reporting any issues with student employees. Will provide on call coverage on a rotating monthly basis to ensure coverage for deck operations and handle any issues that may arise during the weekend shifts.
Minimum Qualifications
- HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENCY AND ONE YEAR OF RELATED OFFICE EXPERIENCE ; OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE .

- Collect fees for pay by hour parking patrons and accept payments for parking fines in a kind, courteous, and accurate manner.
- Must respond calmly to people under stress or expressing displeasure.
- Provide accurate information either by phone, email, or in person and explanations based on policy guidelines for parking patrons. Requires vast knowledge of parking rules/regulations and information on the various other areas within parking, including, but not limited to, permit sales, Motor Pool rentals, and fuel depot. Also, requires a knowledge of buses to get around campus and buses to travel away from campus ( PART , HEAT , and GTA ).
- Assist staff, faculty and students with online form completion and present various options when no one answer is clear.
- Exercising judgment to make appropriate exceptions to guidelines or policy such as when to charge the customer in various situations.
- Make precise decisions during peak traffic flow to better accommodate customer satisfaction.

- Shift Lead for student workers.
- Assists with the training of new employees and student staff. This includes giving step-by-step explanations of how to perform various tasks and teaching employees to use the deck operations equipment, including radios, phones, cameras, and cash register.
- Work directly with Deck Operations Manager to determine what needs to be completed by student employee. Report any issues with student employee to the Deck Operations Manager.
- Provide on-call coverage, on a rotating monthly basis, to ensure coverage for weekend deck operations and handle any issues that may arise during the weekend shifts.
- Responsible for securing office for nightly closing at end of shift.

- Helps file parking forms alphabetically and/or by date or permit number.
- Retrieves filed documents on request.
- Processes paperwork for temporary SpartanCards.
- Gets signatures on rental car documents and processes forms.
- Enters attachments on customer accounts in reference to lost ticket, pass-back and illegal use of permit information.

- Checks data in parking management system for accuracy and enters customer information.
- Issues temporary replacement cards for ID center after hours.
- Enters attachments on customer accounts using parking management system in reference to lost tickets, pass-back issues, and illegal use of permit information.
- Retrieve/reference data from Aims for officers and or other staff members.
- Monitor CCTV system for security purposes and viewing playbacks as needed.
- Operate a Two-Way Radio to assist parking officers, which requires knowledge of the 10-code system.
- Compute and process parking fees for pay by hour customers using cash register.
- Download officer handhelds into parking management system nightly.
- Use Banner system, DMV , and parking management system to link parking tickets to students/visitors.
- Prints parking citation notices for no classifications.
- Uses parking management system to check access cards, fix access cards, raise gates, program gates/decks, and do anything else that is needed in relation to the 4 parking decks.
