Job summary

General Metals is seeking a Second Shift Supervisor to lead all manufacturing, assembly, material handling, and warehouse operations during the 3:30pm–2:00am shift in our sheet metal fabrication plant. You will ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production while meeting customer delivery requirements.

The role requires hands-on leadership, troubleshooting support, and effective communication across shifts to maintain productivity, quality, and team morale during off-shift operations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in sheet metal fabrication, assembly, or warehouse operations.
• 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
• High school diploma or GED; technical training or trade certification preferred.
• Strong knowledge of fabrication equipment including laser cutting, turret punch presses, press brakes, welding (MIG/TIG).
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and inventory transactions.

Responsibilities

• Oversee second shift operations including laser cutting, turret punch presses, press brakes, welding, hardware insertion, assembly, finishing, material handling, and warehouse activities.
• Ensure production schedules are executed to meet on-time delivery and stocking commitments.
• Monitor workflow, staffing, machine utilization, and material flow to maximize efficiency.
• Identify bottlenecks and reallocate labor or resources as needed to maintain production flow.
• Ensure proper shift turnover communication with first shift leadership.
• Supervise second shift material handlers and warehouse personnel.
• Coordinate with Production and Shipping to ensure orders are staged and ready to meet required delivery dates.
• Maintain organization, cleanliness, and safety standards within warehouse areas.
• Actively assist employees in resolving manufacturing issues, equipment challenges, material shortages, and quality concerns.
• Serve as the primary decision-maker for operational issues during second shift.
• Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
• Address attendance, performance, and behavioral concerns in alignment with company policies.
