Description

Position Summary:
The Custodian supports the district’s day-to-day operations by maintaining a clean, sanitary, orderly, and safe workplace. Custodians perform all aspects of cleaning operations related to building maintenance, including customer service, cleaning, minor repairs, completing forms and schedules, and operating equipment safely. They maintain assigned areas according to standards established by the Department of Facilities and Maintenance Services.

Essential Functions

• Cleans and sanitizes restrooms using predefined procedures.
• Cleans, dusts, wipes furniture; sweeps, mops, vacuums floors; empties trash; replaces light bulbs; refills restroom dispensers.
• Assists with setting up facilities for meetings and events.
• Strips, cleans, buffs, and applies floor finishes; vacuums and shampoos carpets.
• Uses and maintains cleaning equipment like buffers, scrubbers, extractors, high-pressure washers, and hand tools.
• Washes walls and equipment; uses ladders when necessary.
• Locks/unlocks buildings, secures premises, checks for unauthorized access, and turns off lights.
• Follows chemical and supply handling instructions.
• Performs snow and debris removal; moves furniture and equipment as needed.
• Washes windows, cleans blinds, launders rags and mops.
• Attends to emergencies and handles recycling materials.
• Supervises student helpers and maintains organized storage of supplies.
• Cares for lawns, shrubs, and cleans sidewalks, driveways, and removes snow/ice.
• Operates related equipment safely.
• Participates in training classes on cleaning methods, products, First Aid, CPR, and work relationships.
• Supports a respectful and inclusive work environment.
• Performs other duties to support the position's objectives and the district's strategic plan.

Responsible for protecting oneself and others from occupational hazards and ensuring all work complies with safety standards and regulations.

Supervisor Statement

Performs varied duties with frequent interruptions, making decisions based on standard procedures, recognizing emergencies, and maintaining cooperative relationships. Adjusts priorities as needed and interacts appropriately with colleagues and stakeholders.
